As a practicing podiatrist in Brisbane, Australia, I am often asked by parents if podiatry would be a good career for a school leaver to enter. There are many things to recommend a career in podiatry including:

Eight Steps to Great Web Design

Take charge of getting your site created by a developer and know the process it will save you money and aquire you a site that actually works the intended purpose!

1. Understanding your business and how you are currently established in your market.
In order to create a site that truly meets your requirements; you first need to have a full understanding of your business including your products, and/or services and more importantly their market position. You then have to acknowledge how you want to explain your business and what it offers in 7 seconds or less. Sounds impossible? Well that is the average time that a user will consider the point “is this site I searched for?”.

2. Budget and estimation

3. The creative process
Be loaded with example sites and more importantly the elements of the site you like so they can attain an understanding of what you would like to see on your site and also what you find frustrating about other sites. 4. Production and Content

Submit your content in a pre-proofed word processed document; don’t get too creative with the document fonts etc. as these will not be preserved when the content is copied into the code of the site. It is inferred that you do use bolding, underlining, headings and sub heading though ,as these highlights are transferred into the site and are very important later on in not only getting the point across to the reader but for Search Engine Optimisation.
One last tip for content; formulate a decent amount of content but provide it in a way that a reader may get a summary of what you are trying to get across in the 1st couple of paragraphs and an image or to. The rest of the paragraphs that get into finer details ARE FOR GOOGLE !

5. Development Programming and CMS

6. Testing and training

7. Launch – going live

There is little point in having a website if nobody visits it, make sure as part of you contract you have considered search engine optimisation and or search engine marketing as part of your website build. Tips to Creating a New Business Logo

A logo is a decisive step to building a business. It is the face of your business. And like your face represents the tone of your business, gestures the service and demonstrates the professionalism or lack there of.

People spend a lot of money on the creation of their logo and walk away with no artwork files. Then a couple months down the track when they require to put signage on their new building they cannot track the design studio down that created the original logo for them and so incur costs to have it recreated. This is redundant and may cause obstacles when trying to recreate the logo exactly as done originally.

Tip 1

Ensure you get a back up disk of your logo as a master file and make sure that it includes all the files needed for the different printing formats.

Creative software updates frequently and some programmes become obsolete. Confirm you have a copy of your logo as a PDF - with the text converted to curves.

Using images in your logo is not very easy to accomplish. For example it is hard to to reverse into black and white. Images also have limitations when it comes to size - they can only be reproduced to a certain size before they start pixilation.

Tip 5
Using gradients in your logo is not recommended. This too can have limitations when it comes to output for ie: gradients are hard to reproduce when embroidering fabrics.

legible.

Tip 7
Make sure that you accept a copy of your logo in CMYK high resolution 300 dpi (for printing use) and RGB 72 dpi(for web use).

Tip 8
It is important to have a style guide of your logo. It will clearly show you how to use your logo so it looks exactly the same every time it is reproduced. This allows you to keep your corporate image consistent.

Tip 9
Make sure that you get a letter from the design studio declaring that you own the copyright to your logo.

How to Create a Style Guide

How many times have you mailed business cards to print and picked up yet another version of your corporate colour? Ever been enthusiastic to see your advert in the latest newspaper and then noticed that the crucial tag line is missing or your logo has been wrecked.

There is only one way to prevent this from happening and that is to set up a style guide. Not only will a style guide assist you steer the reproduction of your logo - it will also help you extend your brand recognition – which many argue is one of the strongest selling tools.

Step 1 : Define the audience for your Style Guide. Is this for staff to utilize in-house or is this for suppliers and contractors to refer to?

Projectors: LCD Verses DLP (The downfall of DLP technology)

The most common question asked when acquiring a new projector for the home, office, or classroom is: should I buy an LCD projector or a DLP projector? LCD, short for ‘liquid crystal device’ and DLP, standing for ‘digital light processing’ are the two top projector imaging technologies. With so many company brands and types available, it can be confusing for clients to decide between both technologies. Ultimately LCD projectors have better image quality and colour accuracy. The article below will explain why DLP projectors struggle with projecting a similar standard of image quality.

Think of a set of blinds in your household for your bedroom window. By a twist of a rod you can make the shutters open or closed, according to if you want to let light in or not. That is exactly how an LCD projector works. Each pixel operates like an individual shutter on a set of blinds to either allow light through or to block it. DLP on the other hand is created of millions of microscopic mirrors or ‘pixel elements’ as experts like to call them. Each pixel element works to either reflect light or block it.

How the light source is processed from the point at which the projector turns on to when the content reaches your screen is absolutely important to image quality, brightness and colour accuracy. LCD projectors direct white light from the lamp by cutting it into red, blue and green components, by three mirrors which transfer the coloured light to 3 separate LCD panels. The 3 LCD panels form the elements of the image by processing each pixel on and off. The pixels are then simultaneously processed in a glass prism to deliver the projector image. An important point to realise about LCD projectors is that all three colours are sent onto your screen simultaneously. The way a DLP projector runs is totally different and even the final product of how an image looks is not the same. With DLP, white light from the lamp is sent through a spinning colour wheel with transparent red, blue and green segments, at speeds up to 11,000 rpm/s. This way of projecting an image creates a sequence of red, blue and green light. The millions of micro mirrors as mentioned above reflect the coloured light on the pixels to construct the image elements. The elements of the image are sent in sequence on the screen, one colour at a time. The viewer’s vision will then draw each coloured element of the image into a full image. In LCD projectors, all colours are available all the time to form the top level of brightness and superb colour accuracy. In DLP, just one colour is available at once, and so resulting in lower colour brightness and accuracy. Some DLP designers have added a white segment for the colour wheel to improve overall brightness, but this also damages colour accuracy.

I read in forums all the time that DLP gives a higher contrast ratio and thus must be superior. For those uncertain, the contrast ratio is a measure of a display system defined as the ratio of the luminance of the brightest white to that of the darkest black that the system is able to produce. DLP projectors do have high contrast specifications when compared to most LCD projectors. At first glance, this must be a benefit, however, in real life, the true black level is determined by the ambient light in the room while the projector is utilised. Do not be tricked by contrast specifications on websites and in brochures.

When the content you are trying to project has moving images, DLP projection technology can also create image marks, or ‘artifacts’. The most often seen artifact that a DLP projector displays with moving images is colour break up. Colour break up is unavoidable in DLP systems because moving images change between the time red, blue and green colours are displayed. LCD projectors do not have this downside because all the colours are sent at once. DLP manufacturers have formed 3DLP solutions using 3 chips to answer the colour break up issue, but the price tag of these projectors make them impractical for most businesses and consumers.

Another differentiation between LCD and DLP is how they match the balance for the refractive qualities of light. Jump back to high school science, and they taught you how the different colours of light refract differing amounts when shone through the same lens. The disadvantage with DLP projectors is that they use the one same panel with the same lens to project Red, Blue and Green. All 3 colours are not the same and refract light in a different way. Often with a DLP projector, some yellow colour will appear above and a superfluous blue will be projected below an image as simple as a single black line. During manufacturing LCD projectors can be set to remove these effects on the projected image, as each colour is projected on a separate LCD panels.

The sole real plus (excluding price) with taking a DLP projector is its smaller size and weight. However, this is only relevant for transport and has to be traded off against the image plusses of LCD projectors. If the outcome of the picture quality is vital to you, then the decision is easy. Choose an LCD projector! LCD projectors will constantly show bright, colourful images with fewer image mistakes. Yachting and Yacht Clubs

As the Dutch found dominance in sea power during the 17th century, the initial yacht became a pleasure craft used first by royalty and then by the burghers on the canals as well as the protected and unprotected waters of the Low Countries. Racing yachts was incidental, arising as private games. English yachting started with King Charles II of England during his exile in the Low Countries. On his reaffirmation to the English throne in 1660, the city of Amsterdam gave him a 20-metre (66-foot) pleasure boat with a beam (maximum width) of 5.6 m (18 feet), which he then named Mary. Charles and his brother James, the duke of York (James II, sovereign 1685–88), built additional yachts and in 1662 raced two of them from the Thames, from Greenwich, to Gravesend, and the same way back, on a £100 bet. Yachting was found to be popular with the wealthy and aristocracy, but after that time the trend did not last.

The first yacht association in the British Isles, the Water Club, was formed around about 1720 at Cork, Ire., as a cruising and unofficial coast guard group, and had large naval panoply and rigour. The closest thing to a race was the “chase,” when the “fleet” pursued a fictional enemy. The club persisted, for the large part as a social club, until 1765, and in 1828, by joining with other clubs, it became known as the Cork Yacht Club (later the Royal Cork Yacht Club).

Yacht racing was seen in some organized manner on the Thames about the mid-18th century. The duke of Cumberland instigated the Cumberland Fleet for Thames racing in 1775. When George IV rose to the throne in 1820, it was known as the Fleet to His Majesty’s Coronation Sailing Society. The Thames Yacht Club seceded following a racing dispute, to become the Royal Thames Yacht Club in 1830. The first English yacht club had been formed at Cowes on the Isle of Wight in 1815, and royal funding made the Solent - the strait between the mainland and the Isle of Wight - the continuing location of British racing. The club at Cowes became the Royal Yachting Club, also at the rise of George IV. All members were required to own boats of at least 20 tons (20,321 kg). Sailing tests for large bids were held, and the social life was wonderful. Eventually Royal Yachting Club boats increased in size to more than 350 tons.

In North America, yachting was first accomplished with the Dutch in New York in the 17th century and persisted when the English had control. Sailing was largely for leisure and found its apogee in George Crowinshield’s Cleopatra’s Barge (1815), which cruised on the Mediterranean Sea and created a minimum of luxury and sophistication for the later yachts in those waters from the late 19th century. The first enduring American yacht association, the Detroit Boat Club, was started in 1839. In 1844, John C. Stevens founded the New York Yacht Club while aboard his schooner Gimcrack.

Kinds of sailboats
Early sailing yachts were within the style of such naval craft as brigantines, schooners, and cutters from the 17th century until the latter half of the 19th century. The design of bigger yachts was first largely affected by the win of America, which was created by George Steers for a association headed by John C. Stevens, and it was the boat for which the America’s Cup (q.v.) found its namesake after its victory at Cowes in 1851. The first yachts were not designed and manufactured in the modern sense, with merely a model used. Not until the latter half of the 19th century did what was labeled naval architecture come into action. Not until the 1920s did the employment of the science of aerodynamics do for the design of sails and rigging what science had previously done for hulls.

Because almost all sailboats had been individually built, there came a desire for handicapping boats as this was previous to the one-design class boats were made. Hence, a rating rule was decreed, which resulted in the International Rule, accepted in 1906 and amended in 1919. In modern times, one of the fastest growing areas in sailing is that of one-design class boats. All boats in a one-design class are created to single requirements in length, beam, sail area, and other aspects (for an example of a two-person sailboat, see illustration). Racing between these boats can be had on an even keel with no handicapping necessary. A great example is the standard International America’s Cup Class taken on for participants in the 1992 America’s Cup race.

For the time that yachting was an activity primarily for the aristocracy and the rich, expense was no issue, and the size of boats grew, in both length and weight. The promotion and desire of smaller boats came in the latter half of the 19th century out of the sailing of the Englishmen R.T. McMullen, a stockbroker, and E.F. Knight, a barrister and journalist. A voyage around the world (1895–98) led single-handedly by the naturalized American captain Joshua Slocum in the 11.3-metre Spray demonstrated the value of small boats. Following this in the 20th century, particularly after World War II, smaller racing and recreational craft became commonplace, down to the dinghy, a popular training boat, of 3.7 m. In the late 20th century, yachts of less than 3 m were sailed single-handedly across the Atlantic Ocean.

Kinds of power yachts
Post the decade 1840–50, in which steam started to take the place of sail power in public boats, the steam engine, and later the internal-combustion engine, were employed increasingly in personal boats. Bigger power yachts were developed to a high standard, and long-distance cruising became a preferred occupation of the rich. The early power yachts were paddle-wheel boats; these then gave way to those powered by the wholly submerged screw or propeller kind of propulsion. As well as naval and merchant vessels, auxiliaries carrying both sail and power were the yacht standard for a number of years. By the later half of the 20th century, many yachts were still auxiliaries, but the larger part were only power yachts with gasoline or diesel engines.

From the last decade of the 19th century there was a boom in the manufacture of large steam yachts. In particular among these was the Mayflower (1897) of 2,690 tons, containing triple-expansion engines, twin screws, and a compartmented iron hull, and was sailed by a crew of more than 150. The Mayflower, commissioned by the United States Navy in 1898, was the official yacht of the president of the United States until 1929 and saw active service in World War II.

As larger and more reliable internal-combustion engines were developed, many big yachts were using them for power. The creation of the diesel engine, using heavy oil for fuel, progressed from World War I. In the decade following, bigger power-yacht manufacture blossomed, reaching a climax in the Orion (1930) at 3,097 tons. During that period the best auxiliary yacht built was the four-masted, steel, barque-rigged Sea Cloud (1931) of 2,323 tons.

The manufacture of large power yachts fell away after 1932, and the style after that was for smaller, less expensive boats. Following World War II, lots of small naval boats were sold to private owners for conversion to yachts. At the late 20th century, yachting is a widespread beloved competition enjoyed by thousands of yachtsmen individually manning and keeping their own small recreational yachts. The amount of yachts and yachtsmen is increasing steadily, not only in the traditional areas along the sea but also on inland waterways and lakes.

Proportional, Progressive, and Regressive taxes

Taxes can be differentiated by the impact they have on the placement of income and wealth. A proportional tax is one that imposes the same relative requirement on every taxpayer—i.e., in the case where tax liability and income move in the same proportion. A progressive tax is characterized by a greater than proportional increase in the tax onus relative to the increase in income, and a regressive tax is characterized by a less than proportional increase in the comparable liability. Ergo, progressive taxes are seen as fighting the lack of equality in income distribution, while regressive taxes might result in an increase these inequalities.

The taxes that are normally believed to be progressive include individual income taxes and estate taxes. Income taxes that are nominally progressive, however, may become less so within the upper-income class—especially if a taxpayer is able to reduce his tax base by declaring deductions or by taking some income parts from his taxable income. Proportional tax rates if applied to lower-income classes could also be more progressive if such personal exemptions are declared.

Income measured over a given period does not absolutely provide the most appropriate measure of taxpaying ability. For example, transitory growth in income could be saved, and in temporary declines in income a taxpayer might choose to provide for consumption by decreasing savings. Ergo, if taxation is held in comparison alongside “permanent income,” it should be less regressive (or more progressive) than when compared with annual income.

Sales taxes and excises (save on luxuries) are usually regressive, because the spread of one’s income consumed or spent on a specific good lessens as the amount of personal income is raised. Poll taxes (also termed head taxes), nominated as a standard amount per capita, clearly are regressive.

It is difficult to determine corporate income taxes and taxes on business as progressive, regressive, or proportionate, because of a lack of certainty about the ability of businesses to shift their tax expenses (see below Shifting and incidence). This difficulty of deciding who bears the tax burden is dependant crucially on whether a national or a subnational (that is, provincial or state) tax is being determined.

In analysing the economic effects of taxation, it is necessary to distinguish between differing points of tax rates. The statutory rates will be dictated in law; generally these are marginal rates, but sometimes they are mean rates. Marginal income tax rates signify the fraction of incremental income demanded by taxation when income rises by one dollar. Thus, if tax liability rises by 45 cents when income rises by one dollar, the marginal tax rate is 45 percent. Income tax legislature commonly contain graduated marginal rates—i.e., rates that increase as income rises. Heavy analysis of marginal tax rates are required to take into account provisions as well as the formal statutory rate structure. If, for example, a particular tax credit (reduction in tax) reduces by 20 cents for each one-dollar growth in income, the marginal rate is 20 percentage points greater than specified in the statutory rates. Since marginal rates display how after-tax income increases or decreases in response to changes in before-tax income, they are the necessary ones for regarding incentive effects of taxation. It is even more complicated to know the marginal effective tax rate applied to income from business and capital, since it may be reliant on factors including the structure of depreciation allowances, the deductibility of interest, and the provisions for inflation adjustment. A basic economic theorem shows that the marginal effective tax rate in income from capital is zero under a consumption-based tax.

Average income tax rates display the portion of total income that is required in taxation. The pattern of average rates is the one that is necessary for considering the distributional equity of taxation. Under a progressive income tax the average income tax rate increases with income. Average income tax rates usually increase with income, both because personal allowances are allowed for the taxpayer and dependents and also due to that marginal tax rates are graduated; conversely, preferential treatment of income received fundamentally by high-income households could dwarf these effects, allowing regressivity, as displayed by average tax rates that lower as income increases.
