Event Tents, such as wedding tents are used when you want to make a spectacular outdoor scene. They are generally structures installed at a location for a period of time.

Why A Tent?
Commercial Tents are used as protection from the sun, rain or a gathering place. They can make a stunning and creative atmosphere for any event.

Tent Rentals
Tents can be rented or leased for a day, a weekend, weeks, months, etc. For one or two day events, the Tents are usually installed a few days before the event, depending on scheduling and weather, and remain until a few days after the event. Many rentals are quoted for the entire week, allowing for time to set up and design the interior and exterior. Some Tents are built for exceedingly long-term events and have been installed and remain installed for years.

What Kind of Tent Should I Rent?
Tent rental companies come in all sizes - from small-sized companies with just a few Tents to exceedingly large-sized companies - carrying dozens of several sizes and styles of Tents. Some general rental companies rent from tent rental companies to accommodate their client’s needs.

You may know you want to use a standard Tent for your event, or your event planner may already have in mind to use a Tent. You have options! There are lots of other fantastic
structures and Tent styles out there. Some are unique and make a statement of their own. Ask the rental company you’re working with for a list of the type styles they have on hand.

Usually, the varying types of Tents available in most companies are (the names vary depending of the company):

Folding Tents Easy and fast to use and always in demand. Very popular, because usually is the less expensive tent. Fast, flexible, cost effective and long lasting.

They are used by:

Corporate brands across most industries

Government & Council buyers

SME business marketers

Franchisees

Agricultural exhibitors

Emergency services & community groups

Folding Tents create brand exposure opportunities.

You can reach your audience at the right time, in the right place with the right message.

Inflatable Tents An exciting and fun alternative Tent. Easy & fast to set up. Be sure they have removable printed roof because in that way you can share the investment with other licences.

What Size Tent Will I Need?

The size of Tent depends on a few factors:

1. The number of guests you expect
2. Layout or seating arrangements or the style of event:

* Reception with what type of tables?
* Speaker engagement with what type of seating?
* Will you need a dance floor?
* Will you need display areas for your products?

If you are interested in a Tent, you can expect to need about 2,000 - 2,500 square feet for 200-seated guests. That could mean a 40 x 60 size Tent (Always ask the Tent rental vendor directly and they’ll give you the best informationabout the size of Tent you’ll need).

Therefore, the key rule is; know what you are going to use your tent for. The choice of tents is astounding, almost on par with the choice of cars that you can buy.

So if you need a tent for the family BBQ, for example, your needs are fairly rudimentry
and your budget may be low. Look for cheap tents that offers a waterproof Polyester roof and a decent warranty for under $600.

If you need a tent for a school or sports club you will need a selection of sizes, and colours. Most plain colour Tents s range between $995- $2900. If you are keen to advertise yourself, you can have your names printed for around $150-$300. Printing logos usually be a little more expensive.

In the last 5 years, portable Tents have become important to businesses for their marketing. The key need for these buyers is a prominent and quality reproduction of their logo. Sign written or printed Tents can be as dull as a website address or they can be a design extravaganza.

Remember, if it is for commercial purposes, the aim is to build recognition of your company with your printed Tent. Printed corporate Tents range in price from $1500- $4000. Good ones will really catch your eye.

Once you have decided on what sort of buyer you are and how you are going to use your Tents, a good Tents company will offer you a choice of frames, a warranty of between 3-5 years and help with formulating the printing-if you need it.

For more information about tents, contact Extreme Marquees. We have a range of cheap tents, for all sorts of home and business applications.

Don’t allow an inexperienced 24 hour carpet cleaner come to repair your carpets with water damage. These are the worries you have to be aware of:

Overcharging. An inexperienced water restoration carpet cleaner may build the job up with extra steps. E.g. using dehumidification for drying the damaged carpets when it is not needed.

Having the correct equipment. They sometimes use equipment from hire businesses for the carpet. This is all right, but an established water damage cleaner will possess all their equipment so they provide a faster response and hopefully a better value job.

Does not have a proper moisture metre. If they don’t have the proper moisture meter, they cannot tell when the carpet is dry. This furthers the danger of mould in future. Removal of this may be required.

They are not Specialised. There are many “Carpet Cleaners” in this industry who do water damage restoration repairs on the “side.” i.e. they aren’t those who deal with this sort of repair each day. Be aware of them. Repairing a carpet is an art. Taking carpet off the gripper strips then reinstalling them has to be completed by a professional, otherwise it can be permanently damaged.

You could be pondering, how do I pick a professional Flood Restoration professional? Below I have listed some things to look for when you call around for a carpet flood damage business:

How large is their Yellow Pages advertisement: This can be an indication as to how much work they get already. A full-size Yellow Pages ad slot can cost about $50 000. If they have paid for a larger ad, you have some assurance that they are professionals.

Where do they come up in Google? The higher they rate in Google, the more webpage views there has been for their business.

What Qualifications do they have? The base qualification they require is a IICRC qualification of Applied Structural Drying and Water Damage Restoration.

Do Insurance companies hire them for their water damage jobs? This is a great indicator. If insurance companies use them, the business is very likely to be good at their job. Insurance companies often use the businesses that offer them the best value for the fee.

What kind of Equipment do they have? They should own at minimum 100 Air movers. If they possess this many, this shows they have been up and running for a while. It took our business 8 years to accumulate that many wet carpet drying air movers.

What level of commitment can you get out of them over the phone? Try to pin them down to a set fee for water extraction, water removal and initial inspection. If they won’t give you a fee for just this, you know they are not willing to serve you, so move on.

Response Time – Our Water Damage business in Brisbane operates to a 59 minute response time for a water damage emergency. The repair needs to be responded to ASAP. Mould can appear after a 24 hour period.

If you focus on these tips you are sure to choose a Flood Damage Restoration professional who can do the job right.

If you have carpet water damage Brisbane, call us for flooded wet carpet drying. Brisbane storm season is approaching and you may need storm damage carpet cleaning. Brisbane and surrounding areas serviced.

As a practicing podiatrist in Brisbane, Australia, I am regularly asked by parents if podiatry would be a good career for a school leaver to contemplate . There are many things to recommend a career in podiatry including:

You can be self employed: This is a prospect that is increasingly being denied to other health care providers such as optometrists and even Family Doctors. Big Business controls a lot of health practices. Consider how often you see an independent optometrist these days – can they compete on price with the multinational chains?

Legal Issues: In Australia (unlike the USA where things are very different), podiatrists very, very rarely get sued . The nature of podiatry practice does not lend itself to accidentally harming one’s patients. Also, you never have to give your patients the bad news that their condition will be terminal.

Working Hours: Emergency call outs are very unlikely. This is a desirable fact for those among us who like their sleep uninterrupted.

Financial Reward: Whilst it is true that podiatry doesn’t pay as well as being a medical practitioner or dentist , the pay is generally commensurate with other allied health providers.

Instant Gratification: One of the most fulfilling facets of a career as a podiatrist is the instant gratification! People come in with pain and leave happy. You will see a plethora of bite-sized jobs each day, many with a cure you can provide immediately. From someone that has worked with unanimously grumpy customers in a past career, believe me when I tell you, it makes the day much less stressful when people leave you smiling.

Philanthropy: Podiatry will afford you an abundance of opportunity to help resolve the suffering of your fellow human beings.

Self – Determination: Podiatry provides a clinician the power to determine their own course of action for the benefit of their patients. This is unlike a career in nursing for instance where one works under the direction of a doctor.

Clear Job roles: The only people who can claim to be a podiatrist are those with a podiatry qualification. The clear roles that this delineates relieves the requirement to find your ‘niche’ after university - as someone with a more generic Bachelor of Science degree might need to do.

Do you like to travel? There are many places across the world that do not make their own podiatrists including Tasmania, the Northern Territory, all of Asia and all of the Middle East. If you want to work around the the world, Australian podiatrists can gain employment in any Commonwealth country and are especially in demand in Singapore, Egypt, United Arab Emirates and other far flung fields.

Variety: In any given day, a podiatrist will see a large range of complaints. There might be an ingrown toenail or two, a painful corn, a sports injury, some back pain and at least a couple of painful plantar fascias. The primary skill required in being a good podiatrist is to be an effective problem solver. Every patient is an individual with a unique problem requiring a well considered solution.

How do you become a qualified as a podiatrist ?

To qualify as a podiatrist which can be studied at available fromsix Australian Universities:

Curtin University

La Trobe University

Charles Sturt University

Queensland University of Technology

University of South Australia

University of Western Sydney.

Last year, the entry score for the QUT was OP 8.

Stephanie Cosgrove graduated as a podiatrist from QUT in 1990 and with a Master’s degree in Applied Science (Podiatry) in 1996. Since 1991, she has worked in private practice as a Podiatrist Brisbane. She received three university prizes during her studies, including the award for excellence in design and manufacture of orthotics. Brisbane has been the site of her private practice since 1991 which has grown to four locations and eleven staff. If you want to Walk Without Pain consider a visit to Brisbane’s most innovative podiatry practice today.

Take charge of getting your site conceived by a developer and understand the process it will save you money and attain you a site that actually works the intended purpose!

1. Understanding your business and how you are currently positioned in your market.
In order to author a site that truly meets your requirements; you first need to have a full comprehension of your business including your products, and/or services and more importantly their market position. You then have to acknowledge how you want to explain your business and what it offers in 7 seconds or less. Sounds impossible? Well that is the average time that a user will consider the point “is this site I searched for?”.

2. Budget and estimation
Have a budget in mind and don’t be afraid to let the developers know what it is. In saying this: BE REALISTIC, $500 will never see a great web site created, nor will they be anything left in the bank to market it.

3. The creative process
Be loaded with example sites and more importantly the elements of the site you like so they can achieve an understanding of what you would like to see on your site and also what you find frustrating about other sites. This will build a good profile and realise not only what type of site to build for you but your tolerance to colours, animations, layouts etc. for your requirements which will allow for efficient development. The more interaction and information you allow them in the beginning the more time you will save everybody in the long run by achieving what you want 1st time round. Check with the designers on how many rounds of changes come with the contract, most will allow for a total conceptual redesign only once and 2 rounds of changes after that.

4. Production and Content
After the home page design is created, the developers will more than likely collect the general layout of this concept and then formulate the inner page template. It is this template that will be repeated for most of your pages for your site.
Provide your content in a pre-proofed word processed document; don’t get too creative with the document fonts etc. as these will not be kept when the content is copied into the code of the site. It is inferred that you do use bolding, underlining, headings and sub heading though ,as these highlights are transferred into the site and are very important later on in not only interacting with the reader but for Search Engine Optimisation.
One last tip for content; provide a decent amount of content but present it in a way that a reader may acquire a summary of what you are trying to get across in the 1st couple of paragraphs and an image or to. The rest of the paragraphs that get into finer details ARE FOR GOOGLE !

5. Development Programming and CMS
If your website contains Content Managed Areas (CMS) or has any other dynamic sections the developers will wrap your design around a content management program such as Joomla or Drupal or they may have a custom built system. Make sure that you get to see how the CMS system operate on another site they have developed or an example site they may have. it is essential that you know that you can utilize and know the system when your site is complete.

6. Testing and training
We work closely with the developers to test your site especially if there are any CMS or special programs that have been created for you. You can guarantee if it is has just been written for you then it will not work 100% first time round. This is a where things can get ugly in the process you must understand the way the program operates and test it as if you were normal website user. If it doesn’t make sense to you, odds are it won’t make sense to your audience. Make sure you test your website on more than just your browser, try to test it on Internet Explorer, Firefox and Safari. All of these browsers are available to download on the internet for free!

7. Launch – going live
When the developers are ready to make your site live make sure you have completed the above testing step until you are certain that this website is the best representation of your business / product it can be. Remember even though you can change things after going live it is still a poor reflection on your business if there are spelling mistakes or broken images when you launch.

8. Marketing
There is little point in having a website if nobody visits it, make sure as part of you contract you have considered search engine optimisation and or search engine marketing as part of your website build. This is the absolute most important factor of the whole process. If you are the only one looking at your site then you are in trouble.

Remember Search Engine Optimisation is about 30% Onsite (getting your site correct for Search Engine to index correctly) and 70% Promotion. Any developer who tells you otherwise hasn’t been in the industry too long.

A logo is a decisive step to forming a business. It is the face of your business. And like your face expresses the tone of your business, gestures the service and displays the professionalism or lack there of.

People spend a lot of money on the creation of their logo and walk away with no artwork files. Then a couple months down the track when they need to put signage on their new building they cannot track the design studio down that created the original logo for them and so incur costs to have it redone. This is needless and may cause obstacles when trying to recreate the logo exactly as determined originally.

We have created some basic tips you for to think about when creating a logo. Hopefully these will help you from experiencing any future obstacles.

Tip 1
First things first - you need to decide if you would like your logo to have an accompanying icon. It is hinted that if your service or product name is not in your business name then perhaps an icon will help in conveying a clear message across to your target audience.

An icon can add an extra element to your branding in that you could use the icon on its own on collateral where perhaps you are sighting for a more illustrative finish without losing recognition.

A good example of this is the well-known and executed Nike logo.

Tip 2
Colour can be an extremely important decision as it not only could alter the output costs but can also hinder your output use. Think about the end result and what you will be putting your branding onto in the future. Make sure your designer is aware of this as they should design accordingly.

Tip 3
Ensure you get a back up disk of your logo as a master file and insure that it includes all the files needed for the different printing formats.

Creative software updates frequently and some programmes become obsolete. Make certain you have a copy of your logo as a PDF - with the text converted to curves.

Tip 4
Using images in your logo is not very easy to manage. For example it is hard to to reverse into black and white. Images also have limitations when it comes to size - they can only be reproduced to a certain size before they start pixilation.

Tip 5
Using gradients in your logo is not recommended. This too can have limitations when it comes to output for ie: gradients are hard to reproduce when embroidering fabrics.

Tip 6
Confirm sure the font is legible. Some logos need to be reproduced on small pieces of collateral ie: post stamps. It is important that in this case the text is
readable

Tip 7
Insure that you receive a copy of your logo in CMYK high resolution 300 dpi (for printing use) and RGB 72 dpi(for web use).

Tip 8
It is important to have a style guide of your logo. It will clearly show you how to use your logo so it looks exactly the same every time it is reproduced. This allows you to keep your corporate image consistent.

Tip 9
Make sure that you get a letter from the design studio declaring that you own the copyright to your logo.

If you follow these tips then not only will you collect a well-designed logo but you will also own the artwork. And when it comes to reproducing your collateral you will be doing it the most cost effective way.

How many times have you mailed business cards to print and obtained yet another version of your corporate colour? Ever been enthusiastic to see your advert in the latest newspaper and then recognized that the crucial tag line is nowhere to be found or your logo has been ruined.

There is only one way to avoid this from happening and that is to create a style guide. Not only will a style guide aid you oversee the reproduction of your logo - it will also help you sustain your brand recognition – which many argue is one of the strongest selling tools.

We have placed the below steps together for you as a starting point.

Step 1 : Define the audience for your Style Guide. Is this for staff to use in-house or is this for suppliers and contractors to refer to?

Step 2 : Define what your output uses are. This is important because you will want different logos and file formats for example, black and white publication adverts in comparison to vehicle graphics.

Step 3 : Define the tone for the copy and content required. For example you may needcopy rules for printed content and then copy rules for website content.

Content rules cover all punctuation rules and how to specify to the business and team.

Step 4 : Confirm you layout all the design templates so it is clear how and where the logo and branding sits on all the different pieces of collateral that may be reproduced.

Step 5 : Assure to include any contributing logos or logos of business that are correlated with you. It’s also important that you mail a copy of the layout to these companies to ensure they approve the layout of their logo as they too may have their own Style Guide and hierarchy layout rules.

Step 6 : Insure that grammar, spelling and contact details are correct.

Step 7 : Make certain that when suppliers are using the Style Guide they understand~know~discern~apprehend} that a proof needs to be dispatched~sent~mailed~commissioned}to you to be validated as correct.

Make your Style Guide finished and as established as possible. Then have it saved in an email friendly file format and have a couple printed. Once this is done we strongly suggest a training session – whereby your design studio arrives and trains your staff on how to use the Style Guide and most importantly your brand.

The common question that is asked when acquiring a new projector for the home, office, or classroom is: do I buy an LCD projector or a DLP projector? LCD, which stands for ‘liquid crystal device’ and DLP, standing for ‘digital light processing’ are the two commonplace projector imaging technologies. With so many brands and different models available, it can be difficult for consumers to make a decision between the two technologies. It comes down to the fact that LCD projectors have superior image quality and colour accuracy. The next paragraph explains why DLP projectors struggle with projecting an equal standard of image quality.

Imagine a set of blinds in your room for your bedroom window. By pulling on a rod you can have the shutters open or closed, depending on whether you want to let light in or not. That is exactly how an LCD projector operates. Each pixel functions like an individual shutter on a set of blinds to either shine light through or to block it. DLP on the other hand is constructed of millions of microscopic mirrors or ‘pixel elements’ as the pros like to call them. Each pixel element operates to either reflect light or block it.

How the light source is processed from the point when the projector switches on to when the picture reaches your screen is vitally important with regard to image quality, brightness and colour accuracy. LCD projectors shine white light from the lamp by splitting it into red, blue and green components, by three mirrors which project the coloured light to 3 separate LCD panels. The 3 LCD panels create the elements of the image by processing each pixel on and off. The pixels are then projected in a glass prism to create the projector image. An important point to remember about LCD projectors is that all three colours are sent onto your wall at the same time. The way a DLP projector works is totally different and even the final product of how an image shows up is not the same. With DLP, white light from the lamp is projected through a spinning colour wheel with transparent red, blue and green segments, at speeds up to 11,000 rpm/s. This method of forming an image forms a sequence of red, blue and green light. The millions of micro mirrors as mentioned above reflect the coloured light on the pixels to construct the image elements. The elements of the image are projected in sequence on the screen, one colour at a time. The viewer’s eyes will then put together each coloured element of the image into the complete image. With LCD projectors, all colours are available all the time to form the highest brightness and great colour accuracy. In DLP, just one colour is available at once, resulting in lower colour brightness and accuracy. Some developers have included a white segment into the colour wheel to improve general brightness, but this then degrades colour accuracy.

I see in forums all the time that DLP provides a higher contrast ratio and ergo must be better. For those who don’t know, the contrast ratio is a measure of a display system defined as the ratio of the luminance of the brightest white to that of the darkest black that the system is able to produce. DLP projectors do provide high contrast specifications when compared to most LCD projectors. At a glance, this seems to be a benefit, however, in real life, the true black level is determined by the ambient light in the room while the projector is being utilised. Do not be duped by contrast specifications on websites and in brochures.

When the content you want to view includes moving images, DLP projection technology also creates image marks, or ‘artifacts’. The most commonplace artifact that a DLP projector creates with moving images is colour break up. Colour break up is incontrovertible in DLP systems because moving images change up between the time red, blue and green colours are displayed. LCD projectors do not have this characteristic because all the colours are sent at once. DLP developers have developed 3DLP solutions using 3 chips to fix the colour break up problem, but the cost of these projectors make them almost impossible for the majority of businesses and consumers.

Another differentiation between LCD and DLP is how they make up for the refractive qualities of light. Think back to high school science, and remember when they taught you how the different colours of light refract various amounts when projected through the same lens. The problem with DLP projectors is that they use the one same panel with the same lens to project Red, Blue and Green. All 3 colours are obviously different and refract light at different levels. Most of the time with a DLP projector, a spill of yellow colour will show above and some extra blue will appear below an image containing something as simple as a lone black line. During manufacturing LCD projectors can be adapted to minimize these effects on the projected image, as each colour is directed on its own LCD panels.

The one veritable advantage (excluding price) with deciding on a DLP projector is its smaller overall size and weight. However, this is only relevant to transport and cannot be traded off against the image benefits of LCD projectors. If the outcome of the picture quality is important to you, then the choice is a no-brainer. Choose an LCD projector! LCD projectors will definitely show bright, colourful images with fewer image blips.

As the Dutch rose to dominance in sea power during the 17th century, the early yacht became a pleasure craft used mostly by royalty and later by the burghers for the canals and the protected and unprotected waters of the Low Countries. Racing yachts was incidental, coming out of private challenges. English yachting began with King Charles II of England during his exile in the Low Countries. On his reaffirmation to the English monarchy in 1660, the city of Amsterdam gave him a 20-metre (66-foot) leisure boat with a beam (maximum width) of 5.6 m (18 feet), which he named Mary. Charles and his brother James, the duke of York (James II, sovereign 1685–88), built more yachts and in 1662 raced two of them from the Thames, from Greenwich, to Gravesend, and back, on a £100 wager. Yachting became classy for the affluent and aristocracy, but after that time the habit did not last.

The first yacht group in the British Isles, the Water Club, was formed at about 1720 at Cork, Ire., as a cruising and unofficial coast guard group, with much naval panoply and rigour. The closest thing to racing boats was the “chase,” in which the “fleet” pursued an imaginary enemy. The club went on, mostly as a social club, until 1765, and in 1828, by conglomerating with other organisations, it became the Cork Yacht Club (later the Royal Cork Yacht Club).

Yacht racing was first seen in some stipulated fashion on the Thames in the mid-18th century. The duke of Cumberland instigated the Cumberland Fleet for Thames racing in 1775. When George IV came to monarchy in 1820, it was known as the Fleet to His Majesty’s Coronation Sailing Society. The Thames Yacht Club seceded after a racing fight, to become the Royal Thames Yacht Club in 1830. The first English yacht society had been initiated at Cowes on the Isle of Wight in 1815, and royal sponsorship made the Solent - the strait between the mainland and the Isle of Wight - the continued setting of British yacht racing. The organisation at Cowes became the Royal Yachting Club, again at the accession of George IV. All members were required to own boats of at least 20 tons (20,321 kg). Sailing matches for large bets were held, and the club life was splendid. Eventually Royal Yachting Club boats increased in size to more than 350 tons.

In North America, yachting was first accomplished with the Dutch in New York in the 17th century and went on when the English held control. Sailing was largely for leisure and found its apogee in George Crowinshield’s Cleopatra’s Barge (1815), which cruised on the Mediterranean Sea and created a benchmark of luxury and sophistication for the later yachts in those waters from the late 19th century. The first enduring American yacht society, the Detroit Boat Club, was formed in 1839. In 1844, John C. Stevens founded the New York Yacht Club while aboard his schooner Gimcrack.

Kinds of sailboats
The Early sailing yachts followed the lines of such naval craft as brigantines, schooners, and cutters from the 17th century through to the latter half of the 19th century. The style of sizeable yachts was initially greatly impacted by the win of America, which was drawn by George Steers for a group started by John C. Stevens, and it was the boat for which the America’s Cup (q.v.) had its namesake after its win at Cowes in 1851. Early yachts were not designed and manufactured in a contemporary sense, with just a model for an outline. Not until the later half of the 19th century did what was known as naval architecture come into action. Not until the 1920s did the employment of the study of aerodynamics do for the design of sails and rigging what science had done earlier for hulls.

Because almost all sailboats had been individually custom-built, there arose a desire for handicapping boats as this was previous to the one-design class boats were made. Hence, a rating rule came into being, which is found in the International Rule, accepted in 1906 and amended in 1919. Today, one of the fastest blossoming areas in sailing is that of one-design class boats. All boats in a one-design class are created to the same requirements in length, beam, sail area, and other aspects (for an example of a two-person sailboat, see illustration). Racing between these boats can be had on an even par with no handicapping necessary. A perfect example is the uniform International America’s Cup Class taken on board for yachts in the 1992 America’s Cup race.

So long as yachting was an activity mostly for the royal and the wealthy, money was no problem, and the size of boats developed, in both length and weight. The promotion and preference of smaller boats happened in the latter half of the 19th century in the sailing of the Englishmen R.T. McMullen, a stockbroker, and E.F. Knight, a barrister and journalist. A journey around the world (1895–98) sailed single-handedly by the naturalized American captain Joshua Slocum in the 11.3-metre Spray demonstrated the value of less sizeable craft. Following this in the 20th century, for the larger part after World War II, smaller racing and recreational boats became more common, down to the dinghy, a preferred training boat, of 3.7 m. In the late 20th century, boats of less than 3 m were setting sail single-handedly across the Atlantic Ocean.

Kinds of power yachts
Post the decade 1840–50, during which steam was set to replace sail power in commercial vessels, the steam engine, and later the internal-combustion engine, were employed more and more in leisure boats. Sizeable power yachts were furthered to a high element, and long-distance cruising turned into a favourite activity of the well off. The first power yachts were paddle-wheel boats; they then made way to boats powered by the wholly submerged screw or propeller type of propulsion. As well as naval and merchant craft, auxiliaries carrying both sail and power were the yacht fashion for a number of years. By the later half of the 20th century, many yachts were still auxiliaries, but the large part were solely power yachts that had gasoline or diesel engines.

During the last decade of the 19th century there was a push in the manufacture of more sizeable steam yachts. Notably within these was the Mayflower (1897) of 2,690 tons, containing triple-expansion engines, twin screws, and a compartmented iron hull, and was operated by a crew of more than 150. The Mayflower, commissioned by the United States Navy in 1898, was the official yacht of the president of the United States until 1929 and gave active service during World War II.

As bigger and more dependable internal-combustion engines were created, many bigger yachts began using them for power. The development of the diesel engine, with heavy oil for fuel, was furthered in World War I. From the decade after that, bigger power-yacht creation grew, hitting a climax in the Orion (1930) at 3,097 tons. During that period the biggest auxiliary yacht built was the four-masted, steel, barque-rigged Sea Cloud (1931) of 2,323 tons.

The manufacture of large power craft declined after 1932, and the trend thereafter was for smaller, less expensive craft. From World War II, many small naval vessels were bought by private owners for conversion to yachts. In the late 20th century, yachting is a globally beloved competition enjoyed by thousands of yachtsmen personally owning and upkeeping their own small leisure boats. The number of craft and owners increased steadily, not only in the traditional areas by the sea but also on inland waterways and lakes.

Taxes can be differentiated by the impact they have on the allocation of income and wealth. A proportional tax is a tax that puts the same relative requirement on all taxpayers—i.e., when tax liability and income grow in relative proportion. A progressive tax is characterizable by a more than proportional increase in the tax liability relative to the growth in income, and a regressive tax is characterizable by a less than proportional rise in the related onus. Therefore, progressive taxes are thought of as taking away inequity in income distribution, whereas regressive taxes may have the effect of an increase in these inequalities.

The taxes that are generally believed to be progressive include individual income taxes and estate taxes. Income taxes that are nominally progressive, however, might become less so in the upper-income group—in particular if a taxpayer is able to lessen his tax base by declaring deductions or by leaving out particular income components from his taxable income. Proportional tax rates if applied to lower-income groups could also be more progressive if such personal exemptions are claimed.

Income measured over the course of a given period might not necessarily provide the most accurate measure of taxpaying status. For example, transitory growth in income might be saved, and in temporary declines in income a taxpayer could opt to pay for consumption by taking from savings. Therefore, if taxation is compared alongside “permanent income,” it will be less regressive (or more progressive) than if made comparable with annual income.

Sales taxes and excises (excepting those on luxuries) are mostly regressive, because the share of own income consumed or spent for a specific good declines as the rate of personal income increases. Poll taxes (also called head taxes), calculated as a fixed amount per capita, clearly are regressive.

It is not easy to dictate corporate income taxes and taxes on business as progressive, regressive, or proportionate, principally due to uncertainty around the ability of businesses to shift their tax expenses (see below Shifting and incidence). This difficulty of determining who bears the tax burden depends essentially on whether a national or a subnational (that is, provincial or state) tax is being considered.

In analysing the economic effect of taxation, it is necessary to distinguish between varied ideas of tax rates. The statutory rates are those nominated in the law; generally these are marginal rates, but for some cases they are median rates. Marginal income tax rates note the fraction of incremental income that is taken by taxation when income grows by one dollar. Hence, if tax onus increases by 45 cents when income increases by one dollar, the marginal tax rate is 45 percent. Income tax legislature generally contain graduated marginal rates—i.e., rates that grow as income grows. Careful analysis of marginal tax rates are required to take into account provisions in addition to the formal statutory rate structure. If, for example, a particular tax credit (reduction in tax) lowers by 20 cents for each one-dollar growth in income, the marginal rate is 20 percentage points greater than specified within the statutory rates. Since marginal rates indicate how after-tax income moves in response to changes in before-tax income, they are the relevant ones for appraising incentive effects of taxation. It is even more difficult to nominate the marginal effective tax rate applied to income from business and capital, as it may rely on considerations such as the structure of depreciation allowances, the deductibility of interest, and the provisions for inflation adjustment. A basic economic theorem determines that the marginal effective tax rate in income from capital is nil under a consumption-based tax.

Average income tax rates indicate the percentage of total income that is demanded in taxation. The pattern of average rates is the one that is relevant for judging the distributional equity of taxation. Under a progressive income tax the average income tax rate increases with income. Average income tax rates commonly grow with income, both because personal allowances are allowed for the taxpayer and dependents and also due to that marginal tax rates are graduated; conversely, preferential treatment of income received mostly by high-income households may dwarf these effects, producing regressivity, as indicated by average tax rates that lessen as income increases.

The LCDs utilised in projection systems are typically small reflective or transmissive panels lit up by a bright arc lamp source. A series of lenses magnifies the reflected or transmitted image and sends it onto the screen. In front-projection systems the LCD is situated on the same side of the screen as the viewer, while in rear-projection systems the screen is lit up from behind. Projectors of higher cost and performance might have three separated LCD panels, creating separate red, green, and blue images that mesh to create a coloured picture on the screen.

The growth in need for film presentations has put a growing emphasis on the switching speed of liquid crystals. This has necessitated the invention of items using smectic liquid crystals, certain kinds of which have a better electro-optical response than nematic liquid crystals. The surface-stabilized ferroelectric liquid crystal (SSFLC) display is at this time the most sophisticated smectic device. With it the liquid crystal molecules are managed in perpendicular layers to the substrate planes, which are differentiated by one or two micrometres, and throughout the layers the molecules are slanted, as shown in the figure. The host liquid crystal contains optically active molecules, and a minor result of the optical activity and the shape of the molecules is the appearance of a permanent charge separation, or ferroelectric dipole, analogous to the ferromagnetic dipole of a magnet. The direction of this dipole is perpendicular to the tilt direction of the molecules and throughout the plane of the layers. Thus, there is a permanent charge separation through the liquid crystal layer in the SSFLC, and its sign is directly paired up to the tilt direction of the molecules. An applied voltage of the right sign can reverse the direction of this dipole in tens of microseconds and therefore reverse the tilt direction of the molecules. The resultant change in optical properties can create a change from light to dark if one or more polarizers are used.

SSFLC devices have been produced for large passive-matrix presentations, but their high cost and complex nature has hindered them from making any remarkable movement on the market. Small transmissive and reflective active-matrix SSFLC displays, however, have displayed some probability for use as parts in projection systems or as viewfinders in digital cameras. Their speedy responding allows them to be employed in time-sequential colour systems, in which high cost colour filters are emulated with a coloured backlight that flashes red, green, and blue in rapid succession (approximately 100 cycles a second). For example, the liquid crystal can be switched to a transmissive state in the red and green periods but to a nontransmissive state in the blue period, displaying the result that the eye sees an average of red and green light, or the colour yellow.

From all the furniture items, the chair could be primary. While most other pieces (save for the bed) are devised to support objects, the chair supports your human form. The term chair can be looked upon here in the wider sense, from stool to throne to further types like the bench and sofa, which can be regarded as extended or connected chairs, and whose character (i.e., whether they are intended for sitting or reclining) is not overtly defined.

The social history of the chair is as interesting as its history as a creative art. The chair is not merely a physical support and/or an aesthetic creation; it was historically symbolic of social place. Within the past royal courts there were social connotations between being seated on a chair with arms, on a chair with a back but without arms, or having to use a stool. Since the 20th century, the director’s or manager’s chair has been seen as a signifier of superior rank, and in democratic governments the speaker sits on a raised floor.

In its furniture form, the chair ranges from a wealth of various makes. There are chairs structured to fit man’s age and physical form (the high chair, the wheelchair) and to indicate his status in society (the executive chair, the throne). From the past there were chairs used for birthing (birth chairs); in the 20th century, there have been chairs used for ending life (the electric chair). We make chairs with one, two, three, and/or four legs, chairs with or without arms, and chairs with or without backs. We have chairs that can be folded for easy storage, chairs on wheels, and chairs on runners.

Our lifestyle has derived new chairs for use in automobiles and aircraft. All of these chair types have been adapted to suit to different human needs. Because of its particular relationship with man, the chair exists to its full advantage only when used. Though it does not make any difference to one’s appreciation of a cupboard or a set of drawers whether there is anything inside or not, a chair is seen best and fairly evaluated with a person using it, for chair and sitter need the other. Thus the different areas of a chair have been named according to the parts of our human shape: arms, legs, feet, back, and seat.

Because the clear job of your chair is to support the human body, its credit is tested principally by how fully it does fulfill this practical function. Within the creation of the chair, the designer is restricted within certain static rules and principal measurements. Under these limitations, however, the chair creator has great freedom.

The history of the chair extends over an epoch of several thousand years. There is evidence of peoples that created significant chair types, expressive of the topmost endeavour in the spheres of skill and art. Out of such societies, individual note can be made of ancient Egypt and Greece; China; Spain and The Netherlands in the 17th century; England in the 18th century; and France in the 18th century during the reigns of Louis XV and Louis XVI.

Egypt
Two ancient Egyptian chair forms, both the construct of expert make, are now found from tomb findings. First of these is a four-legged chair with a back, the other a folding stool. The classical Egyptian chair had four legs crafted as akin to those of an animal, a curved seat, leading to a sloping back supported by vertical stretchers. From this design a stable triangular structure was created. There appeared to be no significant change between the structure of Egyptian thrones and chairs for common people. The main change was in the level of ornamentation, in the selection of more valuable inlays. The Egyptian folding stool in all likelihood was developed as an easily packed seat for army officers. As a camp stool that stool continued until much later periods. But the stool then was made as the use of a ceremonial seat, its mechanical job as a folding stool simply forgotten. This can from today be observed, from as early as 1366–57 BC in two stools, formed in ebony with ivory inlay ornamentation and gold mounts, from the tomb of Tutankhamen. They were in the structure of folding stools but can not be folded as the seats were formed out of wood. The simple manufacture of the folding stool, made of two frames that cycle on metal bolts and have a seat of leather or fabric secured between them, is seen again but some time later as the Bronze Age folding chairs of Scandinavia and northern Germany. The best known of this type is the folding stool, from ashwood, which is now found at Guldhøj (National Museum in Copenhagen).

Greece and Rome
The typical Greek chair, the klismos, is seen not with any ancient fossil still existing but as seen in a large amount of pictorial material. The best recognised is the klismos displayed on the Hegeso Stele at the Dipylon burial location outside Athens (c. 410 BC). This is a chair that had a backward-sloping, curved backboard and four curving legs, only two of those could be seen. These curving legs were likely to be created from bent wood and were likely to have been bore great pressure with the weight of the sitter. The joints attaching the legs to the frame of the seat had to be therefore very durable and were plainly pointed out.

The Romans embued the Greek chair; quite a few models of seated Romans offer evidence of a denser and which appear to be a rather crudely designed klismos. Both designs, the light and the heavy, were popularised as part of the Classicist epoch. The klismos chair is seen in French Empire chairs, in English Regency, and in particular kinds of marked originality of Denmark and Sweden around 1800.

China
The past of the chair in China cannot be followed as far back as in Egypt and Greece. From the time of the Tang dynasty (AD 618–907) an undamaged folio of sketches and artworks has been kept, with images of the interiors and exterior of Chinese houses and the furniture. Also preserved from the 16th century are a collection of chairs crafted from wood or lacquered wood, that possess an intriguing familiarity to representations of ancient chairs.

Like in Egypt, there were two particular chair designs in China: a chair that had four legs and a folding stool. This four-legged chair is constructed both with or without arms however never missing the square seat and straight stiles (vertical side supports) to give support to the back. In one image, though, the stiles were slightly curved over the arms so as to fit the form of the S-shaped back splat (the centre upright of the back). Each of the three areas were mortised onto the yoke-like top rail. Though the style of the Chinese back splat later had an influence on English chairs during the Queen Anne period, wooden pieces that could only to a limited ability stabilise corner joints (and were loose to top it off) indicate an element signatory to Chinese chairs. The four legs pass through the seat frame, which finishes about the rounded staves. All the members are round in section or have rounded edges—an acknowledgement perchance to the bamboo tradition. The seat is not pleasant and may have a plaited form. These chairs required the sitter to stay stiff and upright; for if too much pressure is forced on the back, the chair has a tendency to fall over. In patriarchal Chinese households of this period armchairs most likely were kept only for senior people, for they were given great esteem.

The Chinese folding stool is thought to have come to China from the West. It is not dissimilar so very much from the Egyptian and Scandinavian folding stools, but it possesses a dissimilarity in that the top rail is prettily affixed to the two legs of the stool by a curved member, which is often possessing metal mounts. From a Western perspective the overall effect of both of these furniture styles is stylized. The manufacture and decoration issues are combined in a style that is both naïve and refined. The patched up appearance is a result of the fact that the individual parts do not seem to have been fixed together by means of either glue or screws, but are mortised with one another and fixed in place in the style of a Chinese puzzle.

Spain: 17th century
The Golden Age of Spain in the 17th century also put its name on the chair. Works of art show a design of chair with a relatively crude wooden frame; a back and seat, nailed on, consisting of two layers of leather, with horsehair stuffing in the layers, stitched to produce a pattern of little pads. The front board and a related board at the back could be folded after loosening some little iron hooks. In this way the chair was an easily portable piece of furniture for traveling which, at the same period, held the dignity of a four-legged, high-backed armchair.

The Netherlands: 17th century
A low, square, upholstered style of chair can be seen in engravings of the inside of rich Dutch homes by Abraham Bosse, a French artist, and in paintings by the Dutch artists Johannes Vermeer and Gerard Terborch. Though this design of chair is also found in countries where Dutch styles of interior decoration and Dutch furniture won favour, it is not held that the innovation actually was instigated in The Netherlands. Generally, the legs of the chair were smooth, round in section, and of slim measurements; they are occasionally baluster-shaped (vase-shaped) or twisted. It is patently a bourgeois piece of furniture and was manufactured in large amounts, as indicated from one of Abraham Bosse’s engravings, in which a whole row of those chairs lined up by a wall. The design asserts itself with its elegant proportions and fine upholstery in gilt leather or fabric edged with fringes.

France and England: 17th and 18th centuries
The French Rococo chair in its most mature of styles—that is, as created in Paris around 1750—disseminated through most of Europe and was imitated or copied into the mid-20th century. The style owes the popularity to a combination of relaxation and charm. The seat conforms to the human body and grants a relaxed sitting position. The back is bow-shaped, the legs curved. Typically the seat and back are upholstered, and there are small upholstered pads over the armrests. Smooth transitions are achieved between seat frame, legs, and back cover all the joints, which are solidly constructed on craftsmanlike principles in spite of the absence of stretchers between the legs.

French Rococo chairs and imitations thereof are made from wood of rather thick density; but all members are deeply molded, all extraneous wood has been taken away, and more expensive examples can be further embellished with special delicate and decorative engravings. The wood may be varnished, stained, painted, or gilded. Silk damask or tapestry should be used for the upholstery on the seat, back, and armrests; crosshatched cane is occasionally used in place of upholstery.

English chairs from the 18th century were more open in style than the French. The French taste for stylistic uniformity, which came from the most distinguished circles in Paris and Versailles through most of France and was popularised in several parts of the Continent, had no parallel in England. Prior to 1740, the most commonly used wood was walnut; thereafter, and for the rest of the century, it was mahogany. Walnut, though beautiful in hue, was soft and therefore less suited to wood carving than to rounded, curving forms. Outer surfaces, such as the back and seat frame, were usually veneered. During the walnut period, highly overstuffed armchairs, covered with leather or embroidered material, were also developed. The best upholstery of this period is precisely and firmly modelled and accentuated by braiding or tacks. When imports of mahogany became common, no specifically new chair designs appeared, but the character of the woodwork changed. Mahogany, having a firmer, closer grain, could be cut thinner, which meant that individual parts of the chair could be more slender in shape. Mahogany also lent itself better to carving than walnut. Carving was concentrated more on the arms and back than on the legs, which as a rule were straight and smooth with chamfered (bevelled) edges and molding. There was a wealth of variety in chairback designs, featuring elegant, pierced, vase-shaped splats or two upright posts connected by horizontal slats (ladderback).

Alongside the French Rococo chair and the best English chairs in walnut and mahogany, the stick-back chair was relatively unaffected by the stylistic changes of the day. Originally a medieval form, known, for example, from paintings by Pieter Bruegel the Elder and still found in mid-20th century in the churches and inns of southern Europe, the stick-back chair (in all of its variations) consists basically of a solid, saddle-shaped seat into which the legs, back staves, and possibly the armrests are directly mortised. This typically peasant form underwent a renewal and a process of refinement in England and America during the 18th century. Under the name Windsor chair (a term that seems to have been used for the first time in 1731) or Philadelphia chair, it became commonly known and was widely distributed throughout the world.

Late 18th to 20th century
Within the Neoclassical period, no basic changes took place in chair forms, but legs became straight and dimensions lighter. Backs in the shape of classical vases replaced the fanciful outlines of the Rococo period. Around 1800, freely executed imitations of Greek and Roman chairs of the klismos type, with curved legs and backrest, appeared. French chairs of the Empire period, executed in dark mahogany and embellished with ornate bronze mounts, created a ponderous effect.

In cheaper versions of inferior workmanship, bourgeois chairs of the 19th century carried on the traditions of the 17th and 18th centuries. The only real innovations were the bentwood (wood that has been bent and shaped) chairs in beech that became popular all over the world and were still made in the 20th century. Around 1900 the continental Art Nouveau and Jugendstil styles (French and German styles characterized by organic foliate forms, sinuous lines, and non-geometric forms), and the Arts and Crafts movement in England (established by the English poet and decorator William Morris to reintroduce idealized standards of medieval craftsmanship), gave rise to original chair designs by Eugène Gaillard in France, Henry van de Velde in Belgium, Josef Hoffman in Austria, Antonio Gaudí in Spain, and Charles Rennie Mackintosh in Scotland. These new furniture styles did not exercise wide, let alone decisive, influence. The Art Nouveau chairs designed by the French architect Hector Guimard, for example, are collector’s pieces, but his name is known to a broader public only because of his fanciful entrances to the Paris Métro.

Modern
After World War I, the Bauhaus school in Germany became a creative centre for revolutionary thinking, resulting, for example, in tubular steel chairs designed by the architects Marcel Breuer, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, and others. During World War II, the aircraft industry accelerated the development of laminated wood and molded plastic furniture. The dominant chair forms of this period go back to designs by Alvar Aalto, Bruno Mathsson, and Charles and Ray Eames. Rapid technical developments, in conjunction with an ever-increasing interest in human-factors engineering, or ergonomics, purport that completely new chair forms will probably be evolved in the future.

Bookkeeping is the charting of the money values of the function of a business. Bookkeeping gives the information from which accounts are drafted but is a previous process, required prior to accounting.

Fundamentally, bookkeeping records two areas of information: (1) the current value, or equity, of an entity and (2) changes in value—profit or loss—taking place in the business from a particular time.

Management officials, investors, and credit grantors all require this information: management in order to assess the results of operations, to control costs, to budget for the future, and to make financial policy decisions; investors to analyse the upshots of business operations and make decisions for buying, holding, and selling securities; and credit grantors to assess the financial statements of an entity in finding whether to grant a loan.

Pieces of financial and numerical records have been seen for almost every nation with a commercial backbone. Records of business contracts were uncovered in the archaelogy of Babylon, and accounts for both farms and estates were made in ancient Greece and Rome. The double-entry method of bookkeeping started with the development of the enterprising republics of Italy, and tutorial books for bookkeeping were produced within the 15th century in some Italian cities.

During the late 18th and early 19th centuries, the Industrial Revolution granted a notable stimulus to accounting and bookkeeping.

The development of manufacturing, trading, shipping, and subsidiary services made perfect financial recordkeeping a requirement. The history of bookkeeping, in fact, closely reflects the past of commerce, industry, and government and, in some part, helped forming it. The international spread of industrial and commercial activity called for more sophisticated decision-making methodology, which in turn called for better sophistication in the selection, classification, and presentation of information, increasingly with the assistance of computers. Taxation and government legislature became more important and resulted in higher requirement for information; enterprises had to show information to bolster their income tax, payroll tax, sales tax, and other tax reports. Governmental agencies and educational and other nonprofit institutions also became sizeable, and the requirement for bookkeeping for their own inner departmental operations went up.

While bookkeeping methods can be very detailed, it is all based on two kinds of books used in the bookkeeping procedure—journals and ledgers. A journal has the daily transactions (sales, purchases, and such), and the ledger should have the details of individual accounts. The daily records from the journals are written in the ledgers.

At the end of every month, by general practice, an income statement and a balance sheet are made from the trial balance posted within the ledger. The purpose of the income statement or profit-and-loss statement is to display an analysis of the changes that happen in the ownership equity from the operations of the period. The balance sheet displays the financial condition of the entity at a particular day taken from assets, liabilities, and the ownership equity.

The invention of jet propulsion was ideal for fighter aircraft. Although at first it reduced range and endurance and often increased the take-off run. The German Messerschmitt Me 262 and the British Gloster Meteor twin jets saw action in 1944, together with the tailless Me 163 rocket interceptor which sacrificed range and endurance for astounding climb and speed in defending local areas against heavy bombers.

Germany was far in front of other countries in another factor too: armament. A range of 30 mm (1 inch) cannon, radically new high-speed cannon with multiple-revolver chambers, very large recoilless guns, spin-stabilised air-to-air rockets fired in salvoes, and wire-guided air-to-air missiles were all under test before the Luftwaffe s defeat. They gradually inspired similar developments in other countries: one German gun, the Mauser MG 213, led to the American Pontiac M-39, the French DEFA, the Russian NR-30, the Swiss Oerlikon KCA, and the British Aden, all of which are still in use.

Many early jet fighters were fitted into more or less conventional airframes. The fighter often considered the ultimate achievement of the piston era, the long-range North American P-51 Mustang appeared both in a twinned double-fuselage form and, with few changes, as a US Navy jet.

But the US Air Force decided to wait a year until its makers could sweep back the wings and tail at 35 degrees, which German research had shown could lead to higher speed. The result was the F-86 Sabre, which in 1948 set a speed record at 1,080 km/h (671 mph) and outflew all other fighters. Later versions carried radar and rockets and reached 1,150 km/h (715 mph).

During the Korean War (1950-3) the F-86 met a previously unknown machine built in the Soviet Union, the somewhat lighter and simpler MiG-15, and although the MiG could climb higher and had heavy cannon, the Sabre’s skilled pilots and better equipment gave it the edge in combat.

North American’s next fighter was the F-100 Super Sabre, which exceeded the speed of sound in level flight. The MiG bureau built the twin jet MiG-19, which was even faster, and is still in wide use. The US Air Force ordered various all-weather interceptors with largely automatic radar and flight control systems so that, with guided missiles, they could intercept and destroy enemy aircraft without the pilot ever seeing them.

The British ordered a jet-fighter flying-boat, but discovered that this way of doing business without airfields produced an inferior fighter. The Americans suffered similar problems with a ‘hydroski’ fighter, which could dive faster than sound, but took off and landed on retractable water skis.

Two even stranger fighters were designed around powerful turboprop engines and, standing on their tails, screwed themselves vertically into the air (they were intended to operate from the confined decks of warships or merchant vessels). Britain built high-altitude supersonic fighters with ‘mixed power’ from a turbojet and a rocket. In 1957 the British Minister of Defence suggested there would soon be no more manned fighters at all, only missiles. The Americans stuck to fighters, but made them very large and armed them with missiles, but no gun.

Today the wheel has turned full circle. In the past 10 to 20 years there has been a powerful trend to get back to the ‘eyeball-to-eyeball’ type of confrontation of the man in the Sopwith Camel. The pre-eminent Western fighter, the McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom, was rebuilt with an internal gun, a rapid-fire 20 mm (0.79 in) cannon with six barrels firing up to 6,000 rds/ min, and a slatted wing to pull tighter turns in combat.

New small fighters appeared, such as the General Dynamics F-16, which, although bigger and heavier than any single-engined fighters of World War II, are nevertheless small and light by comparison with such impressive machines as the Grumman F-14 Tomcat, McDonnell Douglas F-15 Eagle, and MiG-25 Foxbat, The RAF’s next interceptor, the ADV (Air-Defence Version) of the Panavia Tornado, is a careful midway compromise, smaller than the three monsters just listed, but with two engines, long range, powerful radar, and extremely effective Skyflash missiles.

Modern interceptors defend vast blocks of airspace up to 160 km (100 miles) in radius, with powerful radar able to look down at the surrounding land and water and spot low-flying intruders trying to slip through the defences unnoticed. Their task is eased by the presence of special surveillance, early-warning, and AWACS (Airborne Warning and Control System) aircraft, with enormous radars and sophisticated command and control systems to manage all a nation’s defences in the most efficient way.

There is no better feeling than being in the cockpit during your jet fighter flight. Jet fighter flights and jet fighter joy flights are the ultimate gift giving and receiving experience that will be remembered forever.

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) or photorejuvenation therapy is a light based technology which treats several skin conditions in one treatment.

It works in the deeper layers of the skin where traditional skincare cannot reach, thus achieving a far superior result in a shorter time frame.

Skin concerns such as pigmentation, freckling, sun damage, capillaries, redness, acne scarring and rosacea may be treated with photorejuvenation.

Pulses of light are applied to the skin either in single zone or more commonly over the whole area to provide a uniform result.

The treatments remove most types of sun induced pigmentation like freckling, age spots and sun damage. By lessening the darker pigmentation IPL leaves the skin with a more even tone.

Vascular skin concerns including capillaries, redness, acne scarring and rosacea are also targeted by the broad wavelengths of light.

As most people will have several skin concerns, this treatment has become popular as it can address them all. The IPL photorejuvenation also stimulates the production of collagen which will plump and smooth the texture of the skin, improving fine lines, wrinkles and pitted scarring.

The most common treatment areas are face, neck, décolletage/chest area and backs of hands.

There is little or no downtime involved with photorejuvenation. Most people will experience some redness and heat in the area which subsides in several hours after treatment.

The darker areas of pigment may form tiny ‘pigment crusts’ which lift off in a few days revealing the result underneath. As the skin is not broken or damaged it is fine to wear make-up, though exfoliation via mechanical scrubs and AHA/glycolics is to be avoided for a week after the IPL treatment.

IPL Photorejuvenation treatments can be utilised as a once off treatment, however a course of treatments will promote the best results.

A progressive result can be expected with a change usually noticed within a week after a session. It is of utmost importance to wear sunscreen in between and after treatments as most of the damage on skin is caused by UV exposure and to prolong the result from the IPL photorejuvenation this is essential.

Your phone has been ringing all morning. You’re trying to get a report out and people have been constantly walking in and out of your office, it’s like a railway station! You’re exhausted - and it’s only 11.00am!

Spare a thought for your receptionist. This is what most receptionists face day in, day out.

The role of the receptionist was once as simple as answering phones and attending to personal visitors. Now the definition of a receptionist is more accurately defined as someone who answers the phone, greets people in person, does 25 things at once, and is continually interrupted.

At any one time a receptionist might be on the phone, holding two calls, tending to a personal client and calling a cab, all while putting together the minutes from yesterday’s staff meeting.

The role of the receptionist is sometimes looked upon as a lowly position, by the public, co-workers, management and receptionists themselves. The attitude is - “It’s just reception, how difficult can it be?”

A survey conducted by Reception Plus found that 63% of receptionists do not feel valued or appreciated. They feel isolated and their efforts unappreciated in many cases.

How can you ensure that anyone calling or coming in to reception will feel comfortable and likely to conduct business with you? The answer is motivation, encouragement and appreciation of the person at your front desk.

Your marketing and sales personnel promote the advantages of using your services. If people making contact feel they’re treated poorly or even rudely, they may choose to seek out your competitors rather than repeat a disappointing experience. I know I would.

The majority of receptionists are proactive, efficient and welcoming. They care about their clients and it is obvious; they make people feel welcome and relaxed; they’re helpful, but not condescending; in control, but not over-bearing; friendly but not unprofessional.

If your receptionist is like this, let him or her know that you appreciate their approach and contribution to the smooth running of the organisation.

It may be by simply remembering to say hello to them as you enter the office, returning their smile, using your manners, asking their opinion, even making them a coffee.

On the other hand, your receptionist may be showing signs of being a little challenged, finding it difficult to know how to respond to various people and situations, and to manage several things at once. Don’t leave them to struggle. Seek out options for training and encouragement.

Reception is very similar to customer service. The requirements are the same: a positive attitude, confidence, assertiveness, good communication, people and telephone skills, politeness, efficiency, willingness to help, ability to handle multiple tasks, and a sound knowledge of the company procedures and services. These attributes can all be learned by a willing participant.

Looking for a receptionist course? Receptionist training is one of the best investments you can make for your business. Reception Plus runs professional receptionist seminars throughout Australia. Check their website for locations and dates.

Being paid, just like you would understand is essentially fundamental to your business because if you aren’t paid, what are you doing in business?

You will be laughing at the heaps of business people who allow their clients to pay them when and if they feel like it. I know of such a trader who repetitively makes bad debts like weeds. How? Most likely because he doesn’t bring himself to ask for the money and allows people to take advantage of him.

If you give a customer credit, only do so if they have proved consistency to you by paying cash on delivery (COD) for a period. Furthermore, you need to check whether they have the resources to pay you - if not then don’t do business with them. Don’t kid yourself into thinking “I need the work” or “I need the sales”. It’s pointless to do the work or providing the goods for zip if you do not get paid.

If you are the type of person who can’t request the payment after the work has been done, try these ideas:
Tell your customer that when the service is done, you will require cash or cheque. They should more than likely have it on them at completion and you don’t have to request your money.

When you send out the initial quote, be sure your payment terms are simple.

Complete an invoice with your terms of payment simply stated and give the client the invoice when the task is finished up. They should look at the invoice and reactively know they can pay the fee now without you going to say a word. Invent a “vicious boss” who may flay you alive if you can not go back with the pay for the service.

Set up your banking to set you up with Merchant facilities so you can have credit cards like Mastercard and Visa. Most people utilize credit cards and it can solve the dilemma of the customer not having a cheque account or not having enough cash at the time.

Alternatively, don’t be asked not to keep hold on any goods until after you have been paid. Know, until they’re paid for, the goods remain yours.

If you decide you’re going to permit somebody credit, be sure you have taken the following information about them at a time BEFORE you let them credit.

Name

Address

Phone number

Bank name and address

Account no.

3 trade references with their names, addresses and phone numbers

Once you know all this information, contact the bank and make for certain that they do use an account there. Then, phone each of the trade reference and inquire if they pay their debts consistently or if they have had any difficulties with them.

Most people will be willing to tell you if the person is troublesome. If everything is OK, allow them a moderate level of debt, say no more than $500 (depending on your business). Monitor the operation of the account for a few months before allowing this amount to be exceeded.

If you run one underperforming ad, meaning, nobody responds, the world does not end. But if you plan poorly, or not at all, you have reason to be concerned about your business coming to a halt.

Once you’ve determined where you should advertise, studied your target audience, and chosen the media you’ll use, the planning of what you’ll say and when you’ll say it is essential to your success. You’ve got to plan with your goals in mind as well as your budget, your competition, your plans for the future, and the realities of the moment.

Might your short or long-range planning include promotions with other companies? Smart marketers are always on the hunt for joint advertising opportunities, chances to tie in with other businesses so that the advertising gets more exposure but at a lower price, since the cost is shared with others.

If three local stores, all compatible, such as a drapery store, a carpet showroom, and a wallpaper shop, combine to run a full-page ad in a regional edition of a national magazine, they all gain the credibility of the ad, but the cost will be only 33 percent of what it normally would be. That’s one of the benefits of joint advertising, and that’s why you should consider the concept before planning your campaign. Just be sure that you never lose your own identity in joint ventures.

Plan your advertising campaign with an eye toward what you’ll do in case you are copied. If you come up with a dynamite plan and it is highly successful, you can count on being copied. So be certain that your name, your look, your logo, the whole works, are synonymous with your name and identity. You may be copied, but your consumers won’t confuse you with the others. Be certain that your plan takes into consideration five important variables:

1. Advertising
2. Promotions
3. Other marketing weapons like promotional products
4. Coordination
5. Timing

Think of these as a basketball team with five players. No matter how good it is, if it lost only one player and had to play with a four-player team, it would lose most of its games to complete teams that excel at teamwork. A good plan includes all the players and is the essence of teamwork. Alone, each of these players just can’t do the job. They need each other. Every smart marketing professional plays with his or her full team.

The smart marketer knows that an advertising campaign must have continuity to do the persuading job well. In advertising, intermittent communication is no communication at all. Your plan must have consistency built right into it. The idea is not to flirt with your public but to convince them. There is a huge difference between the two. Any true advertising expert will tell you that frequency and persistence are the secrets of success in advertising. A major commitment to one or a few of the media will work better in most cases than an across-the-board plan with a variety of media but a short insertion schedule.

You should plan your campaign so that you are consistent, but never boring, committed, but never predictable. You’ve got to build special promotions into your plan to keep your staff on their feet and your competitors off balance. The only part of the plan engraved in stone is your identity. Flexibility and an ability to make alterations in your advertising is crucial.

Promotional products like printed carrier bags, promotional balloons and promotional badges are a great marketing investment. They can be used to thank existing customers, generate curiousity in prospects and keep your brand top of mind. Need ideas?
